The No Go

Sometimes things just don’t work out. I had intended to write a post talking about all the progress I’d made on a rainy day, but at around 9pm, the delivery captain called me to discuss a fairly rapid change to our weather window.

A front is heading our way that will likely lead to a constant barrage of 25kt+ winds starting Tuesday. The large swell combined with the very slow pace we would likely have all conspire to make the passage more risky than either of us are willing to tolerate. We made the no-go decision after exploring as many alternatives as we could come up with. Both of us have time constraints that made most alternatives unviable.

So now I am scrambling to find somewhere to moor Festina Lente until the captain can deliver her at a later date. San Diego is a very expensive city to keep a boat, and mooring options are not easy to obtain, but I’ll figure something out.

This also means I won’t be part of the crew for the passage, which is really disappointing. At least I can look forward to countless adventures in the future. I will use that thought to push through the frustration.
